The Sentence Is a Moving Portrait of Time Unjustly Lost to Prison - Vanity Fair Review
From Vanity Fair
In the new HBO documentary The Sentence, Cindy Shank, mother of three, is sent to prison. She has an old boyfriend to thank for that: Alex, who became a drug dealer during their time together, and who stored guns and drug paraphernalia in his home. When Alex was killed, the police arrived at his house and found Cindy, who refused to take a plea; she was not involved in Alex’s drug business, or in his murder. Though she was mercifully let off the hook, the police came knocking again some years later, after Cindy had gotten married, had kids, and bettered herself. This time, the charge is conspiracy—and Cindy cannot escape. She is sentenced to 15 years in prison.
